Amongst the many HMS KANGAROOs was an armed brig that took convicts, and a
few other passengers, to Australia in 1813-1814:
2/6/1813 sailed UK [Deptford or Portsmouth?]
20/8-20/9/1813 at Rio de Janeiro being recaulked
called Cape Town for water and provisions
10/1/1814 arrived Sydney

She apparently stayed in Autralian waters until 1/1817, apart from a
trooping voyage to Ceylon in 1815-1816.

TNA ADM 30/49 & 50 appear to refer to this vessel.

Survey brig KANGAROO purchased in West India on 11.01.1819.
204 74/94 bm, (deck . 87'0" 75'57/8" x 22'7" x depth 7'10") (1823 210 80/94 bm,

1) Very similar dimensions.
2) Why a ship stationed in West India should be renamed KANGAROO

Unfortunately till now I have not traced fates of KANGAROO after return to England. her master published c1819/20 a book on colonization in NSW

She was not HMS
She was His Majesty Colonial Brig
master Lieutenant Charles Jeffreys, RN
built 1812 Biedford
202bm
Owned by Transport Board
Armed: 12 guns

Reported by Ronald Parsons "Australian Shipowners and their Fleets" in Colonial Navy from arrival in Jan 1814 till departure Jan 1817 for Ceylon
Also noted 1818 and 1819

Colin Jones "Australian Colonial Navies" p 8-9
"Her deep draught prevented her use in some ports; and her master was a timid seaman, yet too proud to be easily subordinate to any army officer"

She was sent back to England (?)

Her semi-sister 150t EMU was also send back to Britain in 1816

LRS'1814 listed her as built "Bidifrd"

I have builders of that era
Richard Chapman, William Taylor, Henry Tucker

For statistic I have some data 1805-07

1 fire ship 422t
