STEAM SHIPPING.

Trial Trip Op The "Sir Hebert Maddock."—On the 13th ult. the InduS Fiotiila Company's tug steamer. Sir Herbert Maddock, made her trial trip on the river below Walker. As this vessel is exclusively adopted for towing, the b^-^-js a.-^ >ra panying her wore lathed alongside, during the performance, loaded to their working draught. The steamer is 275ft. long, 28 1/2ft. beam, draught of water 2ft. l0in. The barges, two in number, are each 200ft. long, 22ft. beam, 2ft." 2in. draught, and are lashed alongside the paddlehoxes while being towed, The engines, 280 nominal horse-power, are diagonal, oscillating; diameter of cylinders, 65tn.: stroke, 1ft. 6in. The boilers, four in number, the ordinary tubular marine. The average of the runs made at the measured mile was—Engines, 30i revolutions per minute; steam, 231 bs. on boilers; indicated horse-power, 1,12*); speed, 15 mil^s. The vessel and barges were built by Messrs. J. Wigham, Richardson and Co., Walker, and the steamer engined by Messrs. Robert Morrison and Co., Ousebum. The trial gave the greatest satisfaction to alt concerned, the contract speed being fourteen miles per hour.
