However, I'm not so much looking for the technological design of the ship as I am their armaments. The USS United States was one such 'super frigate' consisting of 30x 24 pounder long guns on her Main deck, 22x 42 pounder carronades, swivels, and 2x 24 pounder long guns on her Quarterdeck and Forecastle. While the carronades were not possible at the time, these could easily be substituted with long guns. While such a ship did not in reality exist in 1720, it easily could have existed and would have been by no means confined by the structural integrity of a ship of a frigate class. The Invincible first rate has 40 pounder long guns, so these could be used instead of the 42 pounder carronades. Without even the third deck, the Invincible carries more cannon weight than this frigate would, and can support it. I think the question isn't "DID" this ship exist, so much as it is "COULD THIS SHIP HAVE EXISTED".
